The Exploration group met for the first time on Wednesday, October 1st, and the project for the coming quilt year has been decided. The topic is Funky Houses, and anything goes. HAVE FUN!!!
Even if you didn't come to the meeting, you are invited to work on an item (or 2) for the project within the following parameters:
Stitch a funky 2D house using any fibre-related method.
Size restrictions: No side longer than 16" It can be vertical or horizontal (e.g. 6' w x 16" h, 14" w x 8' h, 15' sq. and so on) Play with ideas.
It can not be mounted on a frame.
Edges must be finished in whatever method suits your work.
It must have a hanging device on the back, with a small dowel (or skewer or drapery ring) to enable it to hang nicely in various locations. Leave an opening or 2 in the hanging sleeve for a hanging hook or other apparatus.
You can use any machine or hand techniques you like.
Try a technique or material new to you.
Use stuff you already have on hand, if you can.
It can contain found objects, beads, paint, ... whatever you can attach securely to it.
All embellishments need to be sturdy enought to be stacked on for transport to shows.
Be prepared to have your work on display at various places like libraries and so on.
There will be a gathering on Jan. 14 at 10:30 where you can show your work in progress, get help, get inspiration, etc. to see where we are at.
Before the final presentation at the guild meeting on May 11, we will get together on a Wednesday to show off our finished pieces and explain our techniques, materials, and inspiration.

On Wednesday, October 2nd, a group of quilters met to discus a challenge topic for this quilting year. There were several suggestions which were discussed and eventually voted on. The most popular topic was/is BIRDS. Any topic dealing with “birds” is acceptable, which means it could include trees, nests, birdhouses, etc. Participants should try to do some “new-to-them technique” in completing this challenge.
The finished item should not be smaller than 8 x 10”, and should not be larger than 12 x 16”. The item may be asymmetrical. If you wish, you can create a 3-dimensional bird. Edges can vary but the item should be “hangable”.
Basically, you are to put your mind to doing a creation that will be a great “show off” piece. Likely we will have another meeting at the beginning of January to see how you are progressing. At our last meeting in May of 2025, we will show off our challenges.
ALL ARE WELCOME TO JOIN. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO BE ON THE “BIRDY” LIST.
